Download PDF by William Stanwix, Alex Sparrow: The Hempcrete Book : Designing and Building with Hemp-Lime

Hempcrete is a development fabric with very good homes. it is made up of lime and hemp shivs (a waste product from hemp fiber growing); it may be used for partitions, flooring, and for roof insulation; it is breathable, soaking up and emitting moisture to control inner humidity and stay away from trapped moisture and mould development; it offers first-class acoustic and thermal insulation and thermal mass; it really is light-weight and decreases development bills; and it really is environmentally friendly-it locks up CO2 for the lifetime of the development, and the hemp does not require agrochemicals or pesticides in its cultivation.

The domestic production increase can not meet the growth of domestic demand, and to 2050, 30-60% of the domestic demand for these agricultural products will rely on imports. Although rice supply is more than self-sufficient, and the self-sufficiency rate of wheat can reach 90% or more, the significant increase of the demand for maize may leave its self-sufficiency rate to around 70% by 2050. The low selfsufficiency rate of cotton was mainly due to the expansion of export-oriented garment and textile industries.

According to our projection, even if the domestic production of cotton and other fiber crops products will be doubled by 2050, which can only meet 60% of the total demand (including domestic demand and export demand), cotton imports will gradually increase, and cotton will become one of the major imported agricultural products in China in the future. 2 The Sustained and Rapid Growth of China’s Economy Will Gradually Increase the Demand from the State and Society for Agricultural Multifunction By 2050, China’s economy will gradually stride into the ranks of developed countries from the current middle-income developing economies and in this long-term and sustained process of economic development, the national and social demand for agricultural multifunction will gradually increase.

By 2050, besides the five major challenges in global agricultural development, Chinese agriculture will have to face the following challenges related closely with the national conditions of China. 1. Chinese agriculture will face enormous challenges to meet growing domestic demand for agricultural products in both quantity and quality and to improve its agricultural security China has the largest population in the world. In despite of the fact that the population growth rate will slow down in coming years and that the total population will reach the peak before 2050, the huge population base will pose tremendous pressure upon food demand in China in the long term.
